Sustainability is our number one priority at RennWild. All our candles are made using ingredients that have the smallest impact on our earth.

All RennWild candles are:

- Vegan

- Cruelty-Free

- Paraffin-Free

- Environmentally-Conscious

- Handpoured

Soy wax

Many commercial candles are made using paraffin wax, which is a petroleum byproduct. Not only is this detrimental to our earth, but burning paraffin candles also releases toxic chemicals that can be harmful to our health.

Soy wax, on the other hand, is a renewable, biodegradable alternative that is completely safe to burn. The soy wax we use is both ethically-sourced and sustainable, meaning it's better for our earth and better for us.

Hemp wick

The vast majority of candles are made using cotton wick. RennWild instead uses hemp wick, which is a much more environmentally-conscious option. As well as being a more productive plant, hemp requires less than half the water needed to grow cotton.

Most hemp wicks tend to be waxed with beeswax, which is not suitable for vegans. Our hemp wicks are instead coated first in rice bran wax, then in soy wax, both of which are vegan, renewable and sustainable.

Hemp wick has the added benefit of burning much slower than cotton wick, which is why our candles burn for longer than most other options.

Essential oils

Essential oils are 100% natural oils derived from plants. This makes them a fantastic alternative to synthetic fragrance oils for those who want their candles to be as natural as possible.

Essential oils contain no added chemicals or synthetic compounds, which make them a more earth-conscious choice. They also have numerous wellness benefits; for example, lavender can act as a mild sedative due to a natural compound called linalool, which relaxes the central nervous system.

Due to the high price of essential oils, it's very difficult to find candles made with essential oils that are reasonable priced. Many candles that claim to be made with essential oils contain only a tiny amount of natural oil mixed in with synthetic fragrance oil. This is one of the main problems that RennWild wanted to solve.

The Welsh Collection and our Vibe Candles are all-natural ranges made with carefully blended essential oils. Each recipe is unique to RennWild, formulated over years of testing.

Some candles, such as Rhossili Sunset and Cottagecore, are made with 100% essential oils and absolutely no fragrance oils. This is a perfect option for someone who wants a product that is 100% natural.

However, due to the price and inaccessibility of certain oils, such as sandalwood and vanilla, it is sometimes necessary to use a blend of essential and fragrance oils. For example, Mist on the Bryn contains 83% pure essential oils blended with 17% fragrance oil.

Any candle marked as "made with essential oils" contains at least 60% pure essential oil. RennWild believes in complete transparency, so you can see exactly what percentage of essential oil is used on each candle page.

Fragrance oils

All of our seasonal, gift and literature-inspired candles use fragrance oil, which is a synthetic alternative to essential oils. Fragrance oils are formulated to be potent and long-lasting, and allow you to get much more specific scents. Fragrance oils are not a natural product, but allow much more freedom in candle design. Some argue that it's actually a more sustainable choice than essential oils, because they don't require the use of plant matter and the creation process requires less water and energy.

However, it's very important to make sure that fragrance oils are ethically-sourced. All fragrance oil used at RennWild is completely vegan and cruelty-free.

Candle jars

Our candle jars are 100% reusable and recyclable.

As high-quality, aesthetic glasses, they can be reused as candle holders, storage for jewellery, pens or makeup brushes, DIY crafts, small potholders and anything else you can think of!

Simply scrape out any remaining wax and soak in warm, soapy water to remove any trace of the candle and label. Do not reuse them as food and drink containers as wax and oils are harmful when ingested.

The containers themselves are made of glass and the lids are made of wood, with a removable silicone seal that can be recycled at your local recycling centre.

Packaging

Packaging is where a lot of companies that claim to be sustainable go wrong. The UK throws away 12 billion tonnes of packaging waste annually, a large amount of which ends up in landfill. RennWild is determined that all packaging be 100% recyclable and as sustainable as possible.

Our cardboard boxes are made from 40-60% recycled material. They can be reused or easily recycled again.

Wood wool is biodegradable, and is a much more environmentally-conscious option than packaging such as bubble wrap and other plastic products. It can be reused as animal bedding, kindling or more packaging - or can be thrown in the compost bin.

Tissue paper and business cards are recyclable.
